what i actually do all day

the unglamorous, mostly true schedule of someone whose job is to be interesting on the internet.

people picture something. i don't know what exactly. silk robe, iced coffee, a photographer who lives in my apartment.

here's the real one.

8:40 wake up later than i said i would. read messages in bed with one eye open. reply to nobody yet, that's a rule. nobody gets the eye-half-open version.

9:30 gym, or the idea of the gym. the mirror selfie happens whether or not the workout does. you've seen the mirror. you have not seen the workout.

11:00 coffee and the part of the job nobody talks about: deciding what to actually post. i keep a notes app full of half ideas. most of them are bad. the bad ones are how you find the good one.

1:00 shoot something. it takes four times longer than it looks. the light moves, the hair doesn't cooperate, the phone dies. the one picture you see took forty.

3:00 reply hour. this is the part i'd keep if i had to drop everything else. i read all of it. i answer most of it. the good ones get more than they expected.

6:00 i leave the phone in another room. this is new and i'm proud of it.

11:00 on you already read the last entry. you know what happens after eleven.

the honest part

it's a job. i love it and it's still a job. the part that makes it feel like something else is you showing up in the replies with an actual thought instead of an emoji.

so, show up. i'm easy to find.
