Mellerio Revives 1951 Nail Jewelry Design With 18-Karat Gold And Diamonds

Rosé, Serena Williams and Margot Robbie have all worn gem-set nail embellishments this year as bedazzled manicures move upmarket.

Mellerio, the Paris jewelry house that calls itself the world's oldest, unveiled 18-karat gold nail ornaments set with gemstones at Paris Couture Week, based on a design the brand patented in 1951 under the name "garniture décorative pour ongles," according to Dazed Beauty. The original used palladium; the revived version incorporates gold and stones including black diamonds.

The look has shown up elsewhere this year: Rosé wore real silver chains on her nails, Serena Williams had yellow diamond-shaped nails at Wimbledon 2026, and manicurist Betina Goldstein applied over a carat of genuine diamonds and rubies to Margot Robbie's nails before giving Olympic champion Alysa Liu diamond-studded nude nails at the 2026 Met Gala. Kate Hudson wore "diamond dust-infused" Essie polish to the Oscars.

Mellerio president and artistic director Laure-Isabelle Mellerio said the brand is treating the fingernail with the same high-jewellery seriousness as an ear, a wrist or a neckline. Fashion historian Summer Anne Lee, an adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, said the trend reflects a shift toward visible personalisation after years of pared-back clean girl manicures, while nail artist Mei Kawajiri said she's seen rising demand for jewelry-inspired nail work using pearls, rhinestones and chains.
