Goddess braids, a knotless braiding style that weaves loose human or synthetic curls into the plaits, typically cost $300 to $500 depending on location and the type of hair used, according to New York-based braider Susy Oludele, who spoke to Allure. Braider Ariana Greene said using only synthetic hair costs less, and Oludele recommends confirming upfront whether hair is included in a price quote.
Braiders don't fully agree on the style's definition: Oludele said goddess braids use just a few curls for a "clean" finish, while London-based braider Jess Rutana said they use more loose human hair than boho braids for a fuller look where the braids are less visible. New York braider Shanna St. Cyr Alexander said the style's rise in popularity comes down to versatility and the lower scalp tension of knotless installation compared with root-knotted styles.
