GHD's $449 Sculpt styler uses a machine-learning processor that reads a user's hair texture and temperature in real time and adjusts heat accordingly, rather than simply regulating plate temperature like most flat-irons, according to a review on Who What Wear. GHD senior national education manager Meredith Kirkland said the tool detects when hair is between the plates, how thick the section is, the styler's rotation and how long each pass takes, processing that data up to 2,900 times per second to apply up to 365 degrees Fahrenheit as needed.
GHD's own clinical studies found no statistically significant difference between virgin hair and hair styled with Sculpt, and found styled hair returned to its natural structure after washing, the brand said. The tool learns a user's hair pattern only while powered on and forgets it once turned off, so a second person using the same styler gets results calibrated to their own hair.
