Dyson's $499 CameraJet toothbrush is out of stock after a wave of failures

Dyson says a batch of faulty jet tubes let water seep in, and hasn't said when the device will be back.

Dyson's $499 CameraJet toothbrush is currently listed as out of stock on both dyson.com and sephora.com, according to Allure, after widespread reports of the devices failing within days of purchase. A Consumer Reports editor said her test unit stopped working less than 24 hours after she opened the box.

Dyson told Allure that "one production batch of jet tubes experienced a process issue, creating a potential for water seepage which affected the performance of a small number of products," and that it isolated the affected units, leading to the current out-of-stock listing. The company said it's back in full production and shipping to retailers but didn't give a restock date or address its return policy for the device.

The CameraJet launched earlier this month as a combined toothbrush and water flosser, using a small camera and an AI system trained on 470,000 dental images to aim water between teeth while brushing. Dyson's marketing claims it removes up to 69% more plaque than "market-leading premium electric toothbrushes" in hard-to-reach spots, though Allure said the only clinical data Dyson has provided compares the device to a manual toothbrush rather than to those premium competitors.
