Celebrity hairstylist and Remi Cachet expert Adam Reed says a new "nude hair" color trend is gaining ground this autumn, moving away from the visible highlights and ribboned brightness of traditional balayage. Reed describes the approach as "taking something familiar and natural and making it feel beautifully elevated," with the goal of adding tonal dimension so subtle that the coloring itself becomes hard to spot.
Rather than placing lighter pieces to frame the face, as with balayage, Reed blends color so there's no visible line between shades. "We still want movement and reflection, but we don't necessarily want to see where one colour begins and another ends," he said. On blonde hair, he described the look as a balanced beige, soft champagne or muted honey; on brunette hair, a soft walnut, neutral brown or deeper espresso.
