Jennifer Lawrence launches hair care brand Mes° with three products, draws comparison to rival brand Messy

The Multitask Repair Mask, Off-Duty Restyling Serum and Good Roots Volume Mist each claim a dual function, co-developed with biology-focused beauty company Arcaea.

Jennifer Lawrence launched hair-care brand Mes° on October 28 with three products: the Multitask Repair Mask, a reparative treatment applied to dry hair and left on for at least five minutes that can double as a styling product for a wet or slicked-back look; the Off-Duty Restyling Serum, a bi-phase styling serum; and the Good Roots Volume Mist, which the brand says also works as a scalp treatment. Lawrence co-created the line with Arcaea, a biology-focused beauty company led by chemical bioengineer Jasmina Aganovic, who also co-founded fragrance brand Future Society.

Lawrence's brand describes Mes° as "biodesigned," though Allure said the term's meaning wasn't clear. The launch drew backlash online, with some commenters framing Lawrence's September return to Instagram as a calculated setup for the brand rather than a spontaneous rejoin, and others questioning changes in her appearance and speculating about cosmetic procedures.

Some commenters also compared Mes° to Messy, a hair-care brand Drybar co-founder Alli Webb launched last year, pointing to similarities in name and messaging around embracing imperfection. Webb said in an Instagram video that she had been "inundated with DMs" from people upset on her behalf over the similarity, though Allure noted the two brands' packaging and products differ.
