A deep brunette hair color with cool red undertones, now branded "cherry cola," is resurging in 2026 as the latest iteration of burgundy, a shade that has cycled through names like mulled wine, red velvet and cranberry in past years, according to Allure. Pinterest's Beauty Trend Report shows searches for "cherry cola brunette hair" are up 788% year over year.
Elizabeth Hiserodt, a colorist at Cutler Salon in New York City, said the shade works well for people who want "something vibrant but not too extreme." Michelle Hong, a colorist and founder of NYC The Team, said cherry cola is more wearable than other fantasy colors because it complements a range of skin tones and works on darker hair bases without requiring lightening first, calling it a "lower-damage way to make a statement."
