Chanel gave Who What Wear exclusive access to a new short film featuring brand ambassador Margot Robbie and in-house perfumer Olivier Polge, timed to this year's jasmine harvest in Grasse, France.

Polge confirmed in the film that up to 1,000 jasmine flowers go into a single 30ml bottle of Chanel No. 5, with the petals hand-picked by growers including the Mul family, who have cultivated flowers for the fragrance across five generations.

No. 5 was created by perfumer Ernest Beaux in 1921 at Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's request. Today's Eau de Parfum is built on rose, jasmine, aldehydes and bourbon vanilla, while the Eau de Toilette keeps the original rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and aldehyde base and adds sandalwood and vetiver.

Robbie, who appears alongside Polge in the film, described a connection between perfumery and acting: "I think both a perfumer and an actress are doing a similar thing in different ways... It's a little bit of an invisible personal signature."
