Blepharoplasty, a procedure that removes excess skin from the upper or lower eyelids, ranks among the five most common cosmetic surgeries in the United States, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, with costs ranging from $4,000 to tens of thousands of dollars for top surgeons, Harper's Bazaar reported.
The outlet's beauty editor described turning to the procedure after years of under-eye puffiness that a dermatologist said had become severe enough to start impairing her vision, with Botox ruled out as an option because it risked making her brow heavier.
She was connected with Los Angeles surgeon Catherine Chang, who completed undergrad and medical school at Columbia, a residency at the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in craniofacial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital. Chang told the outlet that less than 20% of plastic surgeons are women, and that only a single-digit percentage of those focus on facial procedures.
